2020-2021 ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR PROGRAM CALENDAR

This academic school year, Sparklers interacted with amazing speakers, including Gaming Art and Writing Directors, Entrepreneurs, Fashion Executive, Professional Athletes, Sports Journalist, Disney Actor, NASA Solar System Ambassador and Astronaut, Medical Experts and Firefighters.

SEPTEMBER: GAMING GIANTS (9/23/20 @10am PT)

Join innovative leaders within the video game industry that have used their education, training and skills set to build careers in one of the world's most popular entertainment activities. You'll meet the Art Director for Epic Games who specifically oversaw the creative direction for Fortnite Battle Royale and the Principal Narrative Writer for Riot Games who developed story lines for League of Legends.  

OCTOBER: BUSINESS INNOVATORS (10/21/20 @10am PT)

How did a little mouse become an international icon?  Branding is all around us and helps make products stand out and remembered. Join this Spark Encounter to learn about building a business brand and how important it is to evolve and protect it. You'll hear from two business powerhouses including the first African American Director of Sales for the Disney Institute and the brand guru behind the Jessica Simpson brand.

NOVEMBER: SPORTS SUPERSTARS (11/18/20 @10am PT)

Professional athletes make sports look easy, but it takes hard work to get from the playground to the sports field. Following a successful sports career, some athletes have used their expertise to become sports commentators, giving fans insight into each play. Join MLB player Matt Joyce from the Miami Marlins and Dodgers legend Ron Cey, MVP World Series Champion, famously known for being the 5th all-time home run leader for the L.A. franchise and Lea B. Olsen, FOX Sports commentator for the WNBA, former collegiate athlete and founder of Rethink the Win youth organization.  

DECEMBER: TV TITANS (12/9/20 @10am PT)

When the camera is on, TV Titans perform at their very best!  They are the creative minds behind some of your favorite television series, watched by millions!  During this Spark Encounter you'll learn just what it takes to bring a character to life by the amazing art of acting.  Don't miss this opportunity to learn all about being an actor for the iconic studio Disney and what it feels like to have fans world-wide!

JANUARY: SPACE SUPERHEROES, TWO MONTH SERIES (1/27/21 @10am PT)

Have you ever wondered what space smells like? How many stars are in the sky? And what's going on with Mars?  During this Live Spark Encounter you'll have the chance to meet a NASA Solar System Ambassador, a pioneer leading the way for students to learn more about Space Science, including Astronomy, Planetary Science & Space Communications.  

FEBRUARY: SPACE SUPERHEROES, TWO MONTH SERIES (2/24/21 @10am PT)

The second part of Space Superheroes has been rescheduled for Wed, June 2nd.  Students will meet NASA astronaut Mary Cleave, who flew twice on Space Shuttle Atlantis as a Mission Specialist, where she operated the robot arm on the space shuttle and deployed the Magellan spacecraft, which went on to study Venus.  Students are invited to ask questions directly to our Space Superhero in this interactive virtual encounter.  

MARCH: MEDICAL WARRIORS PART 1 (3/24/21 @10am PT)

Not all superheroes wear capes...sometimes they wear scrubs! Learn about the extensive training and on-going education doctors and nurses experience to deliver excellent health care to our communities. You'll learn about the incredible job tasks these medical warriors complete each day, including SAVING LIVES! Hear directly from a panel of medical superheroes as they share their experiences and journeys through medical/nursing/dental school and direct on-the-job training.  

APRIL: MEDICAL WARRIORS PART 2 (4/21/21 @10am PT) 

The second part of Medical Warriors will feature the medical profession of surgery. Learn how these career professionals have perfected their art by training for many, many, many years! These Medical Warriors have dedicated their lives to saving others and you get to meet them!

MAY: COMMUNITY HEROES (5/19/21 @10am PT)

Why are fire trucks red? Do Firefighters really slide down poles? Discover what it's like to be a Firefighter committed to serving and protecting our communities.

Firefighters have one of the most important job tasks you can imagine...they keep us safe!  During this Spark Encounter, you'll learn about the courageous bravery, strength and clever thinking needed to be a public service hero! Plus, you'll learn about the education and training needed to start a career in this public service field.

JUNE: SPACE SUPERHEROES FINALE (6/2/21 @10am PT)

JULY: UNIVERSITY TOUR (7/14/21 @10AM PT)

During the summer months, Sparklers are invited to participate in live virtual tours of universities across the country. You don't have to be a high school senior to enjoy these tours. Our youngest Sparklers are welcome to get a taste of what higher education is all about and to dream a little bigger!
